Backed by access to the country’s most abundant virgin mines, Shiva has been a reliable supplier to the Indian paints, paper, plastic, and iron & steel sectors for over two decades. The company takes pride in being recognized as an esteemed growth partner to paint manufacturers throughout India and also in other countries. Below, you can find a selection of minerals that Shiva offers within this segment.
It is used as a white pigment in paints, printing inks and paper, where it acts as a partial substitute for titanium dioxide (extender), while it also increases the covering power and brightness of both paint and paper.
Asbestine is a mineral compound composed of nearly pure fibrous magnesium silicate, with physical characteristics between those of asbestos and talc. It is used in paper manufacture and construction. In antiquity, it was sometimes called linum vivum, and used to take advantage of its fire-resistant properties. Historically, it has been used in a cast stone form on house exteriors. Contemporary applications include use as an extender in paint-based products.
Barytes is highly micronised and closely controlled sulphate of barium having an important application in paint manufacturing. The unique feature is its heaviness. Its specific gravity is high and almost double as compared to other industrial minerals and hence acts as a weighting agent in the paints and allied industries.
Bentonite is a naturally occurring and grit free soft material belonging to the clay family and where the colour varies from pale yellow to light brown depending upon the surrounding conditions at the time of formation. The exchangeable Na++ions dominate over Ca++ and Mg++ions and hence it is classified as Na (Sodium) based Bentonite which is swelling type. Its high swelling index and liquid limit enables its bulk usage in piling and constructions. The high montmorillonite content gives high swelling value with excellent thermal stability. Bentonite bonds sand particles together to form thermally stable molds for molten iron, steel, copper, aluminium and brass. Sodium based bentonite is the preferred binding agent for use in bonding of metals and foundry sands.
Calcined Kaolin is specially developed using advanced processing technique from highly refined kaolin through grinding, calcination and classification. The well controlled high level heating process ensure that the product does not have volatile materials and transforms the product into a more inert mineral. It has advantages in end applications such as high brightness, excellent opacity and good dispensability. Calcined Kaolin reduces the TiO2 Level substantially and also provides extra smoothness and gloss to final products.
Calcite is highly micronised, closely controlled, white natural calcium carbonate specially developed for paint and allied industries. It has a unique particle size distribution for 20M to 2M which optimises particle packing and reduces void spaces which are otherwise filled with expensive resins. Its unique character and economic viability justifies its application into the paint and allied industry.
CAL CARB – 3379 is a closely controlled surface treated Calcium Carbonate Coated Powder which are manufactured from selected high quality white limestone. CAL CARB – 3379 is a high performance product having its main application in plastic – PVC Pipe and profile industry. Its unique character and low cost makes it economically viable for having bulk usage in the plastic industry.
2M is highly micronised, closely controlled, white natural calcium carbonate specially developed for plastic industry. It has a unique 2 micron particle size distribution which optimises particle packing and reduces void spaces which are otherwise filled with expensive resins. Its unique character and economic viability justifies its application into the plastic, PVC pipe & profile and paint industry.
CaCo3 PPT is closely centralized particle size which is chemically processed after mining the calcium carbonate uncoated grade. It is extremely light material with very low bulk density and which offer best particle size in its grade.
Salt carbon black is a highly engineered form of carbon widely used in paints, coatings and inks to achieve a spectrum ranging from gray to deep black. The uses of carbon black also includes pigmentation, ultraviolet (UV) stabilization and conductive agents in the plastics industry. Carbon black is added to rubber as a filler and as a reinforcing agent.
China Clay is the Kaolin family and is processed with high microns. It’s naturally inert and the binding property makes it unique in its application into the paint and allied industries.
Dolomite is micronised and controlled, carbonate of calcium and magnesium having varied application in paint manufacturing. Its unique character makes it a very good filler and brings economic viability in various other industries. Chemical formula CaCO3 . MgCO3
Graphite is a naturally occurring pigment and form of carbon. It is a major additive to many coating systems. It provides formulators and manufacturers with an efficient means of adding value to the coatings.
Many masonry paints and below grade waterproofers are primarily composed of varying amounts of hydrated lime and white portland cement. Also, casein paints require lime in their manufacture. Lime is used in paints as a protective agent, as a pigment component, as a chemical reagent, and as a bonding agent.
Mica is used as a pigment extender that facilitates suspension, reduces chalking, prevents shearing of films and shrinking of the paint film, increases resistance of paint film to water penetration and weathering and brightens the tone of the pigment.
Micaceous Iron Oxide is a naturally occurring pigment and form of Ferric Oxide. Its excellent lamellar structure and high ferric content, helps to provide long term durability to the paints. It is highly recommended for usage as protective coating on steel structures and has good usage in paints and allied industries.
Whiting Chalk Powder is used in undercoats, glass putty, primers, distempers, and cement primers. It is one of the main ingredients in dry distemper (as an extender). It is particularly used in matte emulsion paints, where usually around a third of the paint’s weight constitutes the chalk powder.
Due to its chemical and physical properties, pyrophyllite is very suitable as a filler and is thus used in the paper, plastic, paint, insecticide, and pharmaceutical industries.
Red Oxide is a naturally occurring mineral and is red in colour which is also used as a pigment in the paint manufacturing. Its natural colour and ferric content makes it unique to be able to have bulk application into the red oxide primer manufacturing which is used as an undercoat on the steel structure to resist the corrosion.
Silica is highly micronised and controlled and is also called Silicon di Oxide. It is one of the hardest minerals and is found in abundance having good application specially in texture paint manufacturing.
Paint Soapstone Powder is formed by the hydrothermal actions and metamorphism of magnesium-rich rocks like dolomite, pyroxenite, amphibolite, serpentine, dunite and chlorite.
Talc also commonly known as soapstone is highly micronised and closely controlled Magnesium Silicate having an important application in paint manufacturing. The Talc surface is hydrophobic and its lamellar structure makes it a very unique mineral which acts as a functional filler in various industries.
